The Ferris Wheel of Time
Artist Statement:
My installation was a Ferris wheel in which you can find in a theme park or an amusement park. The action of the single servo motor served as a change in speed of rotations of the wheel during different cycles, for the intervals in duration, every twenty minutes on the hour. Over a progression of time the stages would change from the start as in calm, then to cool picking up speed and then to maximum speed reaching the excited stage. The materials used were cardboard, glue gun, markers, construction paper and a single box to hold as the base.
With a trip down memory lane, this ride is expressive through its highs ands lows and bumps and thumps and its wakes and shakes. A little reflective of what life and everything else in-between can be expressed as a joyful moment in time. This was my way of showing how a memorable moment can be recaptured and to be made visibly and interactively. The changing stages represents the impermanence of life, as in nothing remains the same.
